Problem: High school students typically score low on the Dakota Step Test on the standards 9-12.S.L.2 Analyzing various patterns of inheritance and biological change.

Question: Will integrating 21st Century Skills and Tools improve student achievement on standard 9-12. S.L.2

Plan: Integrate 21st Century Skills and Tools into my lesson plans for standard 9-12.S.L.2. Administer pre and post tests over the standard to gauge student understanding. Use formative assessment, with the use of Google Forms and Achievement Series, in the classroom, over the course of the teaching and after the lesson to check understanding. I plan to have a variety of lesson plans that help to enhance my students' knowledge of technology and how it can help them to become globally aware and successful in learning their standard.

Reflection: The overall process was successful. I have seen growth in my students. Though the success is not as strong as I'd hoped it still allowed me to discover, as a teacher, strategies to use technology and encourage student performance and learning. I feel that for the future it will help me gauge other opportunities to provide a variety of teaching applications and assessments.

Implications for Future Work: I will most certainly use achievement series again to administer pre and post to tests to record student growth and success. By spending time focusing on assessment, I am able to see what knowledge students bring to the table when starting a new unit. I will also use this focus of standards to spend time creating projects for project based learning to help differentiate instruction for students.

As you can see from the results the students made some improvement towards the standard. Though the progress is not as much as I had hoped I am proud of their success. The first six questions we spent a lot of time on; understanding the probability of a specific trait. The 7-12 we more vocabulary that we spent less time on. My students have always struggled with vocabulary, but I think this gives me more of an accurate picture to stress how much they need to know vocabulary. We often discuss it and explain it but I think I will start to incorporate more activities.
